All student athletes must first register (check in) with the Athletic office. Registration includes submitting the signed IHSAA physical form/concussion release form and paying the $50.00 athletic fee/ transportation fee. Checks should be made out to EMHS Athletics. IHSAA physical forms are available in the EMHS Main Office, Athletic Office, or may be downloaded from the www.emhschargers.org website. Elkhart Memorial High School is equipped with a training room, a dance studio, a weight room, a pool, a wrestling room, a small indoor track, two basketball courts, and two volleyball courts. Outside the building are two baseball diamonds, two softball diamonds, a soccer field, a practice soccer field, two practice football fields, eight tennis courts, and a football stadium with an all weather nine lane track. Most Varsity, Junior Varsity, and Freshman events are played at Elkhart Memorial with the exception of boys and girls golf which is played at Christiana Creek Country Club. Varsity and Junior Varsity boys basketball is played at North Side Gym located at North Side Middle School.
Interscholastic sports for boys include baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, swimming, tennis, track, and wrestling. Interscholastic sports for girls include basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, track, and volleyball. Cheerleading is open to both boys and girls. Most of these sports offer both Varsity and Junior Varsity schedules, and Freshman schedules are played in football, volleyball, and both boys and girls basketball. Varsity teams of these sports compete in the IHSAA sectional, regional, semi-state, and state tournaments.
All interscholastic sports are conducted under the rules of the Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA). Eligibility rules set by the IHSAA include:
1. Has passed an IHSAA physical examination given by a physician after May 1st of each year.
2. Has received passing grades in at least five solid subjects at the end of the last grading period in school and is currently enrolled in and passing at least five solid subjects.
3. Has not reached the specified age limit of 20 years old prior to start of the state tournament in his/her sport.
4. Displays conduct and character that will not discredit Elkhart Memorial or the IHSAA.
A more complete list of the IHSAA Eligibility Rules may be obtained by contacting the EMHS Athletic Office. In addition, athletes are expected to follow the Guidelines for Secondary Athletics of the Elkhart Community Schools and consent to be a part of the random drug-testing program. Memorial students who participate in the interschool varsity competition become eligible for the approved Elkhart Memorial “E” award. Each varsity coach has a copy of the criteria and guidelines for lettering in their sport as well as a copy in on file in the athletic office.
Elkhart Memorial is a member of the Northern Lakes Conference which includes the schools of Concord, Goshen, Northridge, NorthWood, Plymouth, Warsaw, and Wawasee.
